Metronomangaben
Metronomangaben, or metronome markings, are tempo specifications in musical scores that fix the speed of a piece by indicating how fast a particular note value should be played. They are usually written as a note value followed by an equal sign and a number, for example quarter note = 120 (Viertelnote = 120). Another common form is M. M. = 60, where M.M. stands for Maelzel’s Metronome, the device historically used to indicate a precise tempo.
Historically, the term derives from the Maelzel metronome, introduced in the early 19th century. Metronome markings
