Metergegevens (meter data) refers to information produced by metering devices that measure the usage of utilities such as electricity, gas, or water. The data typically covers both the identity of the meter and its readings, and may be collected at various intervals from single readings to high-frequency interval data. Metergegevens are used for billing, consumption monitoring, and grid operation.

Common components of metergegevens include meter identification (meter ID, serial number, location or installation address, supplier point), physical and configuration attributes (meter type, model, measurement units, accuracy class), installation data (install date, point of supply), and measurement data (readings, interval data, cumulative consumption, instantaneous values). Tariff information can be included (current rate, currency), and there are status events such as malfunction alerts, tamper notifications, or meter replacement records.

Data flows typically involve meters transmitting data to a meter data management system or head-end system via wired or wireless networks. The data may be stored in data warehouses and used for billing, energy accounting, demand response, and energy management. Technical standards frequently used for metergegevens include DLMS/COSEM and IEC 62056, with privacy and security requirements applying in many jurisdictions to protect sensitive information.
