Metalltönen
Metalltönen, or metallic tones, is a term used in musicology to describe timbres that have a distinctly metal-like quality: bright, ringing, and often with a sharp attack and a lively, shimmering sustain. The concept encompasses sounds produced by metal instruments as well as synthesized or electronically generated tones that imitate metal surfaces. In practice, metall tones are most closely associated with percussion and idiophone families that rely on metal as the primary resonator or bar material.
