Mesteriskola

Mesteriskola, literally “master school” in Hungarian, designates a form of vocational education focused on achieving high levels of craftsmanship in a trade. In Hungary and parts of Central Europe the term is used for programs or institutions where skilled masters mentor a small group of trainees in advanced techniques, quality control, and project work. The emphasis is hands-on learning and mastery of a specific trade, rather than theoretical instruction alone.

The typical structure involves a period of guided practice under a master craftsman, complemented by theoretical study relevant to the craft, business skills, safety, and standards. Trainees are often called apprentices or journeymen in training, and progression culminates in an examination or assessment by a panel of masters, after which the participant may receive a master certification or authorization to establish and supervise a workshop or to teach others.
