Merteuil

Merteuil refers to a fictional character, the Marquise de Merteuil, who is a central figure in Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's 1782 epistolary novel, Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons). The Marquise is depicted as a highly intelligent, manipulative, and amoral aristocrat in pre-revolutionary France.
