MerleFest

MerleFest is an annual music festival held in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. It is one of the nation's premier celebrations of traditional music, featuring bluegrass, folk, Americana, blues, and country music. The festival was founded in 1988 by Bill and Jim Clark, and is dedicated to the memory of Merle Watson, the father of the late folk musician Doc Watson. Doc Watson himself was a prominent performer at the festival until his passing in 2012.

The festival typically takes place over the weekend of the last weekend in April. It is held on the campus of Wilkes Community College. MerleFest is known for its diverse lineup, attracting both legendary artists and emerging talent. In addition to musical performances on multiple stages, the festival also features jam sessions, workshops, and a craft fair showcasing handmade goods from artisans. Attendees often describe MerleFest as having a family-friendly atmosphere and a strong sense of community.
