Merkepapirs

Merkepapirs is a term of Danish origin that translates to "marking paper" or "transfer paper". It is a type of paper that has been coated with a colored pigment, typically on one side. This coating allows the paper to transfer its color onto another surface when pressure is applied, such as by writing or drawing on it.

The primary use of merkepapirs is for creating temporary marks or guidelines. Historically, it was commonly used by tailors and dressmakers to transfer pattern lines onto fabric. The user would place the merkepapirs, colored side down, between the pattern and the fabric, then trace the pattern lines. The pressure would transfer the colored pigment, leaving a visible outline on the material.
