Merenptah was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty, reigning during the late 13th century BCE. He was the thirteenth son of Pharaoh Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses the Great, and served as a coregent with his father before officially ascending to the throne. Merenptah's name means "Beloved of Ptah," the Egyptian god of creation and craftsmen.
