Egypts

Egypts is not a standard term in English. The country is referred to as Egypt. The plural "Egypts" may appear only in error or when contrasting multiple historical periods or locations associated with Egypt. People from Egypt are Egyptians.

Egypt is located mainly in North Africa, with the Sinai Peninsula forming a land bridge to Asia. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south, and Libya to the west. The Nile River runs the length of the country, creating a narrow agricultural belt along its banks. The capital and largest city is Cairo; other major cities include Alexandria, Giza, and Port Said. Arabic is the official language; Egyptian Arabic is widely spoken. The currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP).

Egypt has one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations, with a history spanning more than 5,000 years of ancient Egypt, known for pyramids, temples, hieroglyphic script, and early advances in writing, architecture, and religion. In the modern era, Egypt gained independence in the 20th century and is now a semi-presidential republic. The country plays a central role in regional politics and international trade via the Suez Canal, a critical route between the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The economy is diverse, with tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and services sectors; key crops include cotton and grains. Egypt has a rich cultural heritage and many UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor and Karnak, and the ancient city of Thebes.
