It is described as a hill-and-river settlement in the western foothills of the fictional continent of Veyra, with terraced streets that descend toward a protected river harbor. The town is typically presented as a tightly knit market center that blends medieval and early-industrial influences.

The name Megszzúrva is drawn from elements in the local Megszzúrvan language, with meg- meaning "great" and szúrva meaning "crossing" or "bridge," reflecting the town’s historical role as a river crossing and trading node.

Geography and population are variable across texts, but Megszzúrva is commonly depicted as occupying several hillside blocks connected by stepped lanes and arcaded passages. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cooler summers; rainfall supports deciduous and coniferous trees in surrounding woodlands.
