Megrovás

Megrovás refers to a type of large, open grassland ecosystem that is characterized by its expansive, relatively flat terrain and sparse tree coverage. The term is derived from Hungarian, where "meg" means "great" or "large," and "rovás" translates to "meadow" or "grassland." These landscapes are typically found in regions with a temperate climate, where precipitation and soil conditions favor the growth of grasses and herbs over forests or shrubs.

Megrovás ecosystems are often associated with historical land-use practices, such as traditional grazing or haymaking, which help maintain the open nature of the landscape. In Hungary, these grasslands were once widespread but have significantly declined due to agricultural intensification, urbanization, and changes in land management.
