Masterlegierungen

Masterlegierungen, also known as master alloys, are pre-alloyed materials used to introduce specific elements into a base metal, typically in the production of other alloys. They are concentrated mixtures of one or more alloying elements with a base metal, designed for ease of handling and precise addition during melting processes. The primary purpose of using master alloys is to achieve uniform distribution of alloying elements and to control the final composition of the desired alloy.

Master alloys are commonly employed in the metallurgical industry, particularly in the production of aluminum alloys, steel, and other non-ferrous metals. For instance, a master alloy containing silicon and aluminum might be added to a molten aluminum bath to create a specific aluminum-silicon alloy. This method offers advantages over adding pure elements, such as lower melting points, better solubility, and reduced risk of oxidation or volatilization of the added elements.
