Massivbeton
Massivbeton, or mass concrete, denotes concrete placed in large volumes to form a single structural mass. In such constructions the weight of the concrete itself provides much of the structural action, and reinforcement is often limited or used mainly to control cracking rather than to carry the main loads. Massivbeton is typically employed for gravity structures and thick-walled components.
Key characteristics are high heat of hydration and substantial thermal mass. The heat generated during curing
Construction considerations: plan pour size and sequencing, monitor temperature, and allow adequate curing. Reinforcement, when present,
Applications and advantages: common uses include gravity dams, large foundation slabs, thick walls, and massive piers.
