Marynarza

Marynarza is the feminine form used in Polish to refer to a woman who works as a sailor. The term covers women serving on ships in various roles, including deck crew, engineers, navigators, and officers, across civilian maritime industries and military contexts.

Historically, women’s participation in maritime work has varied, with barriers and stereotypes affecting access to many roles. In Poland and other countries, women have served in support and auxiliary positions during conflicts and in later decades have increasingly trained and joined the merchant navy, navy, coast guard, and related maritime fields. Today, the presence of marynarza in commercial and public fleets continues to grow as more training programs and policies promote gender equality.

Training and qualifications for a marynarza typically occur at maritime academies and seafaring schools. Programs cover navigation, seamanship, ship handling, safety procedures, engineering basics, and cargo operations.
