Marginmiljøer

Digital margins refer to places or groups with limited internet access, low digital literacy, or involvement in online spaces that lie outside mainstream platforms or discourse.

Characteristics commonly associated with marginmiljøer include varying levels of infrastructure, services, and housing quality, coupled with strong local networks, resilience, and adaptive practices. The concept emphasizes how inequalities are produced and sustained through spatial and social arrangements, while also highlighting opportunities for local knowledge and community-led initiatives.

Applications and relevance include informing urban planning, housing policy, transportation, education, and social services to address disparities and strengthen inclusion. Methods used in studying marginmiljøer range from ethnography and case studies to participatory mapping and GIS analysis, often with an emphasis on intersectionality and community voices.
