Marang

Marang is a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines and Malaysia. It is closely related to the jackfruit and breadfruit, belonging to the Moraceae family. The fruit is typically round or oval, growing to about 10-15 centimeters in diameter. Its skin is soft, fleshy, and covered in small, blunt spines or protuberances, often greenish-yellow when ripe. Unlike its larger relatives, marang is usually eaten fresh.

When opened, the marang reveals numerous small, white, fleshy bulbs, each enclosing a seed. These bulbs are edible and possess a sweet, creamy texture and a distinct aroma that some find pungent, while others describe it as pleasantly fragrant. The flavor is often compared to a mix of jackfruit, durian, and banana. The seeds can be boiled or roasted and are also edible, though less commonly consumed than the flesh. Marang is a good source of vitamin C and dietary fiber. It is a popular seasonal fruit in its native regions, enjoyed for its unique taste and tropical appeal. The tree itself is relatively small to medium-sized, thriving in humid, tropical climates.
