MapQuestcom
MapQuestcom, often referred to simply as MapQuest, is a web-based mapping service. It was one of the first widely used online mapping platforms, launching in 1996. Initially developed by GeoPartners, it was later acquired by AOL in 1999 and then spun off as part of the standalone company Alliance for Cellular Business in 2006. In 2010, it was acquired by the AOL subsidiary AOL, Inc. The service provides users with interactive maps, driving directions, traffic information, and sometimes points of interest. Users can input starting and ending locations to receive turn-by-turn navigation instructions, often with estimated travel times and distances. MapQuest's interface allows for zooming, panning, and searching for specific addresses or businesses. Over the years, MapQuest has evolved, introducing features such as satellite imagery and street-level views. While it faced increasing competition from other mapping services, it remains a recognized name in online navigation. The platform primarily operates through its website and has also offered mobile applications in the past.
