Manzala

Manzala is a traditional Moroccan game that is popular throughout the country and beyond. It is played on a wooden board with 24 small holes, divided into two sections by a larger hole in the center. The game is played by two players, who take turns placing seeds from their half of the board into the holes. The objective of the game is to capture more seeds than the opponent.

The game begins with four seeds in each hole. On a player's turn, they choose one of their holes and sow the seeds from that hole into the subsequent holes in a counter-clockwise direction. If the last seed is placed in an opponent's hole, that seed is captured and the player's turn ends. If the last seed is placed in the player's own store (the larger hole), the player gets an additional turn.

If a player's last seed lands in one of their own holes that was previously empty and the opposite hole contains seeds, those seeds are captured and added to the player's store. The game continues until all the seeds have been captured or one player cannot make a move. The player with the most seeds in their store wins the game.

Manzala is known for its strategic depth and is often played for recreation and socializing. It is also used as a tool for teaching mathematics and logic to children. The game has a rich cultural significance in Morocco and is often played during social gatherings and celebrations.
