It implies that the design, manufacturing processes, and supply chain have been evaluated and aligned to support mass production at target volumes and quality levels. Core aspects typically include design for manufacturability and assembly (DfMA), defined bill of materials, verified process flows, tooling readiness, and measurable process capability. It also encompasses a manufacturing plan with capacity, scheduling, quality control, and risk management, as well as compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.

In practice, manufacturing readiness is often assessed using structured frameworks such as Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL), which rate progress from concept (low readiness) to full production (high readiness) across technical, manufacturing, and supply chain dimensions. Cross-functional reviews, pilot runs, and production trials are common methods to validate readiness before full-scale production.

Benefits of achieving manufacturing readiness include reduced technical and schedule risk, more accurate cost and lead-time forecasting, smoother scale-up, improved supplier coordination, and faster time-to-market.
