Mandisa

Mandisa Lynn Hundley, known mononymously as Mandisa, was an American worship singer and songwriter. She gained national recognition as a contestant on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006, where she finished in ninth place. Following her time on the show, Mandisa embarked on a successful career in contemporary Christian music.

Born in Citrus Heights, California, Mandisa developed a passion for music early on. After American Idol, she released her debut album, "True Beauty," in 2007, which featured the hit single "Only the Beginning." Her music often conveyed themes of faith, hope, and overcoming adversity. She went on to release several more albums, including "Freedom" (2009), "What If We Were Real" (2011), and "Overcomer" (2013). The title track from "Overcomer" earned her a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song.

Throughout her career, Mandisa was known for her powerful vocals and her ability to connect with audiences through her relatable lyrics and personal testimony. She was also an advocate for body positivity and mental health awareness, openly sharing her own struggles and encouraging others. Mandisa passed away in April 2024. Her music and message continue to inspire many.
