Magyarország, or Hungary in English, is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. Its capital and largest city is Budapest. The country is bordered by Slovakia to the north, Ukraine to the northeast, Romania to the east and southeast, Serbia to the south, Croatia and Slovenia to the southwest, and Austria to the west. Hungary has a rich history, with its origins tracing back to the Magyar tribes who settled in the Carpathian Basin in the late 9th century. It was a kingdom for many centuries, and its influence extended across a significant portion of Central Europe. The country experienced periods of both prosperity and foreign occupation throughout its history, including Ottoman rule and the Habsburg Empire. Following World War I, Hungary became a republic and later experienced a period of communist rule after World War II. In 1989, Hungary transitioned to a democratic parliamentary republic.

The landscape of Hungary is predominantly flat, characterized by the Great Hungarian Plain in the east and south, and rolling hills in the north and west. The Danube River, one of Europe's longest, flows through the country, dividing Budapest into Buda and Pest. Hungary is known for its thermal waters, with numerous hot springs and spas located throughout the nation. The official language is Hungarian, which belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family and is distinct from most other European languages. The currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF). Hungary is a member of the European Union and NATO. Its economy is largely driven by manufacturing, services, and tourism, with a focus on industries such as automotive, electronics, and pharmaceuticals.
