Magnetronit

Magnetronit is a name used in science fiction and speculative geology to denote a highly magnetic mineral. It is not an officially recognized mineral, and there are no verified natural samples in major databases or IMA records. Because of its fictional status, its properties vary between authors and worldbuilding projects.

In many depictions, magnetronit is described as a ferric- and ferromagnetic oxide or alloy with variable transition-metal content. Proposed crystal structures range from spinel-like to perovskite-like, allowing extensive solid-solution. Typical schematics suggest compositions along a Fe-Mn-Ti-O system, but no standard formula exists.

Reported properties in fictional sources include a metallic to glassy luster, a black to dark gray color, high density, and a Mohs hardness around 5–6. The material is usually said to exhibit very high magnetic saturation and a Curie temperature well above room temperature, enabling room-temperature magnetism in worldbuilding contexts.

Natural occurrence is ordinarily described as either ultramafic or hydrothermal settings in which extreme conditions or extraterrestrial environments produce magnetronit analogs. In most non-fiction contexts, magnetronit functions as a conceptual example to discuss magnetism in minerals rather than as a real specimen.

The name blends magnetism with mineral-naming conventions; it is commonly used for fictional or exploratory purposes.
