Magneettitestaus, also known as magnetic particle testing or magnetic particle inspection, is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. The process involves magnetizing the material and applying a magnetic particle suspension to the surface. Discontinuities in the material disrupt the magnetic field, causing the magnetic particles to accumulate and form visible indications on the surface. This method is commonly used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing to ensure the integrity and safety of components and structures.

The magnetic particle testing process typically involves several steps. First, the surface of the material is cleaned to remove any contaminants that could interfere with the test. The material is then magnetized using various methods, such as direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) magnetization. A magnetic particle suspension, which consists of fine magnetic particles suspended in a liquid carrier, is applied to the surface. The particles are attracted to the areas of magnetic flux leakage caused by discontinuities, forming visible indications that can be evaluated by a trained inspector.
