Macrovision

Macrovision, now known as Viacess, is a company that has historically been involved in digital rights management (DRM) technologies and content protection. Founded in 1983, it initially focused on analog copy protection for video tapes. Over time, Macrovision expanded its offerings to include digital copy protection, software protection, and various other anti-piracy solutions for a wide range of media and software.

The company became well-known for its technologies that aimed to prevent unauthorized copying of movies, music, and software. These solutions often involved embedding protection mechanisms directly into the media or software itself, or through hardware devices. Macrovision's technologies were adopted by many major content distributors and software vendors.

In 2007, Macrovision acquired a company called Acresso Software, which specialized in software license management. This acquisition broadened Macrovision's scope within the software industry. Later, in 2009, Macrovision officially changed its name to Avigilon Corporation, and then in 2014, it was acquired by Motorola Solutions. The original Macrovision technologies and business lines continued to evolve under different corporate structures. The name "Macrovision" itself is less commonly used in recent years as the company's focus and ownership have shifted.
