Macrorailer

Macrorailer is a term used in discussions of rail technology to describe a macro-scale track-based system intended to supply electric power and data to passing vehicles through a continuous conductor embedded in or alongside the track, rather than solely by conventional overhead wires or third-rail systems. The concept appears in speculative literature and experimental studies exploring alternatives to existing electrification for high-capacity networks.

The macrorailer system would employ a low-impedance conductor running the length of the alignment, with robust insulation, protective enclosures, and fault isolation. A vehicle-mounted interface or shoe would transfer energy and data via contact with the moving track, while onboard power electronics regulate supply.
