Maastopyöräkilpailu, also known as mountain bike racing, is a competitive cycling sport that takes place on off-road terrain. Events are held on a variety of surfaces including dirt trails, gravel roads, rocks, and roots. The format of races can vary significantly, encompassing disciplines such as cross-country, downhill, enduro, and marathon.

Cross-country (XC) racing is the most common Olympic discipline. It typically involves circuits with a mix of climbs, descents, and technical sections, with riders completing multiple laps.
