Maalämmöllä refers to geothermal heating or cooling systems that utilize the stable temperature of the earth as a heat source or sink. This technology, also known as ground-source heat pumps, involves a network of pipes buried underground to exchange heat with the soil or groundwater. In winter, the system extracts heat from the ground and transfers it into the building for heating. In summer, the process is reversed; heat is extracted from the building and dissipated into the cooler earth, providing cooling.
