MSEC

MSEC, or Microsoft Security Essentials, was an antivirus software developed by Microsoft. It was designed to protect users from various types of malware, including viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and spyware. MSEC was part of Microsoft's broader security strategy, which also included Windows Defender, a similar antivirus tool integrated into Windows 8 and later versions.

It offered features such as real-time protection, scheduled scans, and the ability to create custom scans. However, MSEC was eventually discontinued in 2015, with Microsoft recommending users switch to Windows Defender, which was integrated into the Windows operating system. This move was part of Microsoft's strategy to consolidate its security offerings and provide a more unified security experience for users. Despite its discontinuation, MSEC remains an important part of Microsoft's security history and continues to be used by some users who prefer its standalone nature and features.
