MSCI Inc., commonly referred to as MSCI, is a provider of investment decision support tools, including equity, fixed income and real estate indices, risk analytics, and related data used by the global investment community. Its products are designed to support benchmark construction, portfolio construction, and risk management.

MSCI’s indices are widely used as benchmarks for portfolios and as the basis for many passive and smart-beta products. The flagship family is the Global Investable Market Index Series, which covers developed and emerging markets and includes well-known indices such as MSCI World, MSCI ACWI, and MSCI Emerging Markets, along with numerous regional and sector indices.

Index construction generally relies on float-adjusted market capitalization weighting, designed to reflect investable opportunities and maintain comparability across markets. Methodologies incorporate free float, liquidity, and size screens, with sector classification based on the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). Indices are maintained through regular reviews and rebalancing on predefined schedules.

MSCI also provides environmental, social, and governance (ESG) products and climate risk analytics, including ESG indices and related data used for screening, tilting, and benchmarking investment portfolios.

Through licensing arrangements, MSCI indices underpin a wide range of exchange-traded funds and other investment products. MSCI Inc. is a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
