MRskanningar is the Swedish term for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. MRI is a medical imaging technique used to create detailed images of the internal organs and tissues of the body. It utilizes a strong magnetic field and radio waves to generate these images. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use ionizing radiation, making it a safer option for repeated examinations.

The process involves lying inside a large, tube-shaped machine that generates a powerful magnetic field. Radio waves are then pulsed through the body, causing the protons within the water molecules of the tissues to align and then emit signals when the radio waves are turned off. These signals are detected by the MRI scanner and processed by a computer to create cross-sectional images. Different tissues have varying amounts of water, so they produce different signals, allowing for clear differentiation between them.

MRI scans are used to diagnose a wide range of conditions, including tumors, joint and bone abnormalities, brain and spinal cord disorders, and diseases of the heart and blood vessels. The procedure is generally painless, though some individuals may experience claustrophobia due to the confined space of the scanner. The duration of an MRskanning can vary depending on the area being examined and the complexity of the scan, typically ranging from 15 minutes to over an hour. Patients are often asked to remain still during the scan to ensure image clarity.
