MRTLäsionen, which translates to "Multiple Sclerosis Lesions" in English, refers to the characteristic areas of damage that occur in the central nervous system of individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). These lesions, also known as plaques or demyelinating lesions, are primarily found in the white matter of the brain and spinal cord. They are caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking the myelin sheath, the protective covering around nerve fibers. This attack leads to inflammation and the breakdown of myelin, a process called demyelination.
