MOSFETtransistorit, which stands for Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor, are a type of transistor widely used in modern electronic circuits. They are semiconductor devices that control the flow of electrical current by applying a voltage to a gate terminal. This voltage creates an electric field, which in turn alters the conductivity of a semiconductor channel between two other terminals, the source and the drain. MOSFETs are known for their low power consumption and high input impedance, making them ideal for applications such as digital logic circuits, amplifiers, and power switching.

There are two primary types of MOSFETs: enhancement-mode and depletion-mode. Enhancement-mode MOSFETs are normally off, meaning they require a gate voltage to create a conductive channel. Depletion-mode MOSFETs are normally on and require a gate voltage to reduce their conductivity. MOSFETs also come in two families based on the type of charge carrier used in the channel: n-channel, which uses electrons, and p-channel, which uses holes. The construction of a MOSFET involves a semiconductor substrate, typically silicon, with a thin insulating layer of silicon dioxide (the "oxide") separating the gate electrode from the channel.

The ability to operate with very little power and to be manufactured in extremely high densities on integrated circuits has made MOSFETs the dominant transistor technology for microprocessors, memory chips, and other digital devices. Their versatility and efficiency continue to drive innovation in the field of electronics.
