MMVV refers to the Marburgvirus disease, a rare and severe illness in humans and nonhuman primates caused by infection with the Marburg virus. The virus is a filovirus, belonging to the same family as the Ebola virus, and is known for causing hemorrhagic fever. The initial outbreak occurred in 1967 in Marburg and Frankfurt, Germany, and in Belgrade, Serbia, linked to infected monkeys imported from Uganda.
