MGMT is an American rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2002 by Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser. The name MGMT is an abbreviation of "management." The two met while studying at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and began working together in New York City, releasing early material under the Cantora label.
