MGMT

MGMT is an American rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2002 by Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser. The name MGMT is an abbreviation of "management." The two met while studying at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and began working together in New York City, releasing early material under the Cantora label.

MGMT released their debut studio album Oracular Spectacular in 2007. The album yielded international hits including Time to Pretend, Electric Feel, and Kids, and established the band as a prominent act in the indie rock scene of the late 2000s. Their music combines elements of psychedelic pop, neo-psychedelia, and synth-pop, with lush arrangements and hook-laden songs.

In 2010, MGMT released Congratulations, which marked a departure from their debut's glossy pop toward a more experimental and guitar-driven sound. The group followed with the self-titled MGMT in 2013, and Little Dark Age in 2018, the latter noted for a darker synth-driven mood and more streamlined production. The band has continued to release music and perform live, often with a rotating lineup supporting the core duo.

Across their discography, MGMT has been cited as part of the revival of psychedelic-influenced indie rock in the late 2000s and early 2010s, influencing a generation of artists while experimenting with arrangements and production.
