MEMSskannerite is a fictional or speculative term used in discussions of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) to denote a hypothetical composite material designed to enable integrated, high-speed scanning within MEMS devices. The name blends MEMS technology with a fictional scanning material called skannerite, and there is no established chemical or material by that name in real-world materials science.

Conceptually, MEMSskannerite would combine a MEMS-compatible substrate with a functional layer capable of rapid, reversible actuation and sensing. Proponents describe properties such as a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, low thermal expansion, and compatibility with standard lithography and etching processes, enabling co-fabrication with actuators, sensors, and optical or electrical readouts.

Fabrication and integration are speculative. The concept emphasizes compatibility with existing microfabrication workflows to support compact device architectures.

Potential applications discussed in theoretical contexts include ultra-fast optical scanning for miniature imaging systems, scanning probe microscopy at reduced sizes, and compact LIDAR or optical coherence tomography components. The concept remains a theoretical construct and has not advanced to experimental demonstration in current literature.
