Lülitusmeetodid, also known as switching methods, refer to the techniques employed in telecommunications and computer networking to establish and manage connections between different points. These methods are fundamental to transmitting data and voice signals efficiently.

The primary categories of switching methods are circuit switching and packet switching. Circuit switching, commonly used in traditional telephone networks, establishes a dedicated physical path for the duration of a communication session. This path remains open and exclusively reserved for the two communicating parties, ensuring a consistent quality of service and low latency. However, it can be inefficient as the dedicated circuit is occupied even when no data is being transmitted.

Packet switching, on the other hand, breaks down data into smaller units called packets. Each packet contains addressing information and is routed independently through the network. Packets may travel along different paths and are reassembled at the destination. This method offers greater network efficiency and flexibility, as network resources can be shared among multiple users. However, it can introduce variable delays and requires mechanisms for packet reordering and error correction.

A hybrid approach, known as message switching, involves sending entire messages as discrete units. This method was an early precursor to packet switching but is less common in modern networks due to its inherent inefficiencies compared to packet switching. The choice of switching method significantly impacts network performance, cost, and the type of services that can be supported.
