The most prominent temperature cycle is the diurnal cycle, driven by the Earth's rotation, causing daily changes between day and night temperatures. This cycle is influenced by factors like latitude, season, cloud cover, and proximity to large bodies of water.

Another important cycle is the annual or seasonal cycle, caused by the Earth's axial tilt and its orbit around the sun. This leads to distinct temperature patterns throughout the year, with warmer summers and colder winters in temperate and polar regions. Beyond these familiar cycles, longer-term temperature cycles also exist. On even longer timescales, paleoclimate studies reveal natural temperature cycles such as glacial-interglacial cycles, which have occurred over tens to hundreds of thousands of years, driven by variations in Earth's orbit and other natural factors. Understanding these temperature cycles is crucial for comprehending past climate changes and for making predictions about future climate scenarios.
