Lämpöeristys, known in English as thermal insulation, refers to the property of a material that resists the flow of heat. Materials with high thermal insulation properties are used to reduce heat transfer, either to keep a space warm in cold weather or to keep it cool in warm weather. This principle is fundamental to building construction, refrigeration, and many industrial processes.

The effectiveness of a thermal insulator is often measured by its thermal conductivity, a value that indicates how well a material conducts heat. Materials with low thermal conductivity are good insulators. Common examples of insulating materials include fiberglass, mineral wool, polystyrene foam, and polyurethane foam. Natural materials like cork and sheep's wool also possess good insulating qualities.
