Lähtöarvo

Lähtöarvo is Finnish for the value of a variable at the start of a process or calculation. It corresponds to the concept of an initial or starting value used to determine a specific solution or trajectory in mathematical and computational contexts.

In mathematics, lähtöarvo is most commonly encountered as the initial condition of a differential or difference equation. For example, in the ordinary differential equation y'(t) = f(t, y) with y(t0) = y0, the value y0 at the initial time t0 is the lähtöarvo that selects the particular solution of the equation over an interval.

In numerical methods and simulation, lähtöarvo may refer to the starting point for iterative algorithms.
