Lähimaksamista
Lähimaksaminen, also known as contactless payment, is a payment method that allows users to complete transactions by simply holding their payment card or device near a compatible payment terminal. This technology utilizes short-range radio frequency identification (RFID) or near-field communication (NFC) to facilitate the secure exchange of payment information. To make a lähimaksaminen transaction, a user typically holds their card or a device like a smartphone or smartwatch, which has been equipped with payment capabilities, within a few centimeters of the payment terminal. The terminal then reads the encrypted payment data from the card or device, and if the transaction amount is below a certain threshold, often around 50 euros in many countries, no further authentication, such as a PIN code, is required. For amounts exceeding this limit, the user will typically be prompted to enter their PIN or provide another form of verification. Lähimaksaminen offers convenience and speed, as it significantly reduces the time needed for transactions compared to traditional chip-and-PIN or magnetic stripe methods. It has become widely adopted by consumers and merchants due to its ease of use and enhanced efficiency.
