Luonar

Luonar is a fictional city-state and cultural hub in the realm of Eldara, situated on the northern coast of the Asteros Archipelago. It serves as a regional capital and commercial center, known for its maritime trade, crafts, and preserved historic districts. The name Luonar derives from the old Luorin language and is used as both city name and governing identity.

Geography and climate: Luonar lies on a broad natural harbor protected by a ring of limestone promontories. The surrounding landscape features rolling hills, deciduous forests, and a network of tidal channels that support boating and aquaculture. The climate is temperate with wet winters and dry summers.

History: Luonar began as a coastal trading settlement in the 11th century and joined the Eldaran Compact in the 13th. It gained autonomous self-government in the mid-17th century and adopted a constitutional framework in the 19th century. In the late 20th century it expanded its port facilities and diversified its economy.

Governance: The city-state is governed by a twelve-member Council of Representatives and a Prime Minister who acts as head of government. A separately elected President serves as ceremonial head of state. The judiciary is independent, with a superior court and municipal courts.

Economy and demographics: The population is approximately 230,000. Luonarian is the official language, with minority communities speaking related dialects. Key sectors include fishing, shipping, light manufacturing, tourism, and financial services.

Culture and landmarks: Luonar is noted for its medieval and neoclassical architecture, street markets, and harbor festivals. Notable sites include the Marble Harbor, the Grand Library of Luonar, and the Summit Park.
