Luftmilitær

Luftmilitær, often translated as air force, refers to the branch of a nation's armed forces responsible for conducting aerial warfare. Its primary role is to gain and maintain superiority in the air, which can then be used to support ground and naval operations, conduct reconnaissance, deliver air-to-ground and air-to-air attacks, and transport troops and equipment.

The development of luftmilitær began in the early 20th century with the advent of the airplane. Initially used for reconnaissance, its offensive and defensive capabilities quickly became apparent. World War I saw the first significant use of aircraft in combat, leading to the establishment of dedicated air services. The interwar period and World War II further accelerated the evolution of air power, with the introduction of more advanced aircraft, tactics, and strategic bombing doctrines.
