Lubavitchers

Lubavitchers, also known as Chabad Lubavitch or simply Chabad, are adherents of a Hasidic Jewish movement. The movement originated in the late 18th century in the town of Lubavitch, now in Russia. Lubavitch is the seventh and longest-lasting Hasidic dynasty. The name "Chabad" is an acronym for the Hebrew words chochmah (wisdom), binah (understanding), and da'at (knowledge), representing a philosophy of attaining closeness to God through intellectual contemplation of His oneness.

The movement is characterized by its outreach efforts, aiming to connect with all Jews, regardless of their level of observance. Lubavitch emissaries, known as shluchim, are stationed in communities worldwide, establishing Chabad Houses that serve as centers for Jewish education, prayer, and community activities. These centers offer a wide range of programs, including Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, Torah classes, and Hebrew schools.

Lubavitch philosophy emphasizes the inherent divinity within every Jew and the importance of love and responsibility towards one's fellow Jew. The movement's leaders, particularly Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the seventh Rebbe, are highly revered. Rabbi Schneerson guided the movement for decades, fostering its global expansion and establishing its distinctive approach to Jewish outreach. Lubavitchers are known for their distinctive attire, often characterized by black hats and suits for men. Their religious practices are rooted in traditional Jewish law and custom, with an emphasis on joy and spiritual fervor.
