Lotteinden

Lotteinden is a town and municipality in the highland region of Northmark in Eldoria. It sits in a sheltered valley along the Lottan River and is surrounded by mixed forests. The municipality covers about 68 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 4,800 as of the latest estimates. The area experiences a temperate climate with mild summers and cold winters.

The name Lotteinden dates to the medieval period, likely derived from a local family name and a geographical feature. The first written record dates from 1127, with a market charter granted in the 13th century. The town developed around a hilltop fortress and a parish church. The 17th–18th centuries brought reconstruction after fires; modernization arrived in the late 19th century with the extension of a regional railway and dairy farming.

The local economy centers on agriculture, dairy farming, and wood processing, complemented by small artisans and tourism. The town is connected by a regional road network and has a railway station on the Northmark regional line, with regular services to larger cities. A small bus network serves surrounding villages.

The population is predominantly Eldorian-speaking, with a minority speaking a regional dialect. The community hosts an annual Harvest Festival and a winter market. Notable sites include a 12th-century parish church and a forested nature reserve. Notable people include cartographer Annika Varr (b. 1964), recognized for mapping regional hiking trails.
