Logistiknoder (logistics nodes) are points in a logistics network where goods are received, stored, transformed, and re-distributed. They connect suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers and can be physical facilities or digital hubs within a broader supply chain.

Common types include storage nodes such as warehouses and distribution centers; transshipment or cross-docking nodes; production or assembly nodes; consolidation and deconsolidation nodes; and border or customs nodes. Each node has attributes like location, capacity, handling equipment, service levels, and automation, and is typically supported by IT systems such as warehouse management systems (WMS) and transportation management systems (TMS).

Design considerations include location strategy (proximity to demand and transport corridors, access to multimodal routes), network topology (hub-and-spoke vs point-to-point), capacity planning, resilience and risk management, and total cost of ownership. Performance is measured by service level, cycle time, throughput, inventory turnover, utilization, and total landed cost.

Digitalization and trends emphasize sensors, the Internet of Things (IoT), RFID and real-time tracking, along with analytics, simulation tools, and digital twins to support decision-making and visibility across the network. Sustainability concerns promote energy efficiency, multimodal transport, and optimized routing to reduce emissions.

In practice, logistiknoder operate within regional and global supply chains and are influenced by regulation, trade policy, and customs procedures. Notable examples of logistics nodes include ports, airports, inland terminals, rail yards, and large distribution centers.
