In Estonian linguistics, loetlemist refers to the systematic listing of elements in a sequence, often to present categories, options, or a description of features. The term is derived from the verb loetlema (“to enumerate”) with the noun-forming suffix -mist.

The final item is usually connected by a coordinating conjunction such as ja (“and”) or ning (“and”), especially in longer lists. Punctuation and intonation can signal whether the enumeration is exhaustive or partial.

Functions: Loetlemist clarifies information, strengthens memory by rhythm, and can create a catalogue-like style common in descriptive prose, field notes, and formal writing. In Estonian, the construction often interacts with case and concord within the surrounding sentence.
