Lockside

Lockside refers to the side of a lock or locking mechanism that is opposite to the side where the keyhole or key entry point is located. In mechanical locks, the lockside is typically the side where the bolt or latch is engaged with the strike plate or deadbolt housing. This terminology is commonly used in locksmithing, security systems, and lock installation to describe the orientation and positioning of locks on doors, cabinets, or other objects requiring secure closure.

Locks are often categorized based on their lockside orientation, such as "right-hand locks" or "left-hand locks," depending on which side the bolt extends. For example, a right-hand lock will have its bolt on the right side when viewed from the outside, meaning the lockside is on the right.
