Ljepis

Ljepis is a fictional landlocked republic in the southeastern European portion of the imagined continent of Valoria. Created for world-building and narrative purposes, it is described as bordered by the states of Drenovia to the north and Mirana to the south. The capital and largest city is Velestra.

The name Ljepis is drawn from a Slavic-root word ljep meaning beauty, with the adjectival suffix -is; in the constructed Ljepic language, Ljepis roughly translates to "land of beauty."

Ljepis covers about 18,000 square kilometers and features the Ljepian Alps and several river valleys with a temperate continental climate. The population is about 2.8 million; the official language is Ljepic, with Seran and Kralic spoken by minority communities.

It is a semi-presidential republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The unicameral Assembly of Representatives has 60 seats and is elected every four years. The country practices multi-party politics and constitutional protections common in its fictional bloc.

The economy is diversified, with services, manufacturing, and agriculture as major sectors. GDP is around 65 billion USD, with GDP per capita near 23,000 USD. Key industries include wine production, timber, textiles, and hydro and wind power. Exports include wine, machinery, and timber.

Ljepic is the official language; education emphasizes science and the arts. The country hosts festivals such as Ljepi Days that celebrate folklore, crafts, and music. Notable cultural practices include traditional woodcarving and alpine sports; Velestra Castle and Nebor Gorge are among its landmarks.
