Livssyklusrutiner, also known as menstrual cycles, are the natural biological processes that occur in the female body, typically beginning around the onset of puberty and continuing until menopause. These cycles are regulated by hormonal fluctuations, primarily involving the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which are produced by the ovaries.

The menstrual cycle is divided into several phases: the menstrual phase, the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. The menstrual phase begins with the shedding of the uterine lining (endometrium) and lasts for about 3-7 days. During the follicular phase, which follows, the follicle in the ovary grows and releases an egg. Ovulation occurs mid-cycle, when the egg is released from the ovary. If fertilization occurs, the corpus luteum forms, and the luteal phase begins, preparing the body for a potential pregnancy. If fertilization does not occur, the corpus luteum degenerates, and the cycle begins anew.

The duration of the menstrual cycle can vary from person to person, typically ranging from 21 to 35 days, with an average of 28 days. Factors such as age, stress, and overall health can influence the length and regularity of the cycle.

Understanding the menstrual cycle is crucial for various aspects of health, including fertility, pregnancy, and menopause. Regular tracking of menstrual cycles can help individuals monitor their reproductive health and detect any irregularities that may require medical attention.
