Listoja

Listoja is a fictional coastal town and municipality in the archipelago nation of Veridia. It sits on the eastern shore of Veridia’s largest island, facing the Lumen Sea. The name derives from the ancient Listo language and is said to mean wind-swept harbor. The landscape includes a sheltered bay, rocky shoreline, and pine forests inland.

Historically, Listoja traces its origins to a 12th-century fishing settlement and developed into a trading port during the late medieval period. It prospered through shipbuilding in the 17th and 18th centuries, but was damaged by a major flood in 1689 and rebuilt. In the 20th century, rail lines and roads integrated the town with the broader archipelago.

As of 2020, Listoja had about 9,500 residents. The population is predominantly Veridian, with small communities of seasonal workers and expatriate fishermen.

The local economy centers on fishing, seafood processing, and boatbuilding, with growing tourism in the summer months. Cultural life centers around maritime traditions and harbor festivals.

Landmarks include the Listoja Lighthouse, the Old Market Quarter, and Fort Bastion, now a museum. The annual Listojan Festival celebrates maritime heritage with parades and concerts.

Transportation is provided by a coastal road and regular ferries to neighboring islands; there is a small airfield for domestic flights. The town hosts one secondary school and a community college offering vocational programs.
